SMEG CONCEPT

During this project we were tasked with designing a new and sustainable kettle. I chose to redesign the popular SMEG kettle. The main challenge was to maintain the main design elements from SMEG yet create a different design from their current line-up.

Concept Development

I initiated my concept with a wider model and then shifted over to a slimmer design to allow the kettle to take up less space in the kitchen

In order to create a successful model, I created a sectional and an exploded view that would allow me to create a solid plan for my physical model.

TECHNICAL DRAWING

This technical drawing was made using SolidWorks to make an accurate drawing that would permit me to make an accurate model

Physical Model

The main body of the kettle and the lid were all made out of MDF, which were later sanded smooth, laid primer painted and clear coated. The long handle was hand shaped by acrylic using heat and a mold. The letters and the base were designed on SolidWorks using the technical drawing so that it would be a perfect fit, giving me an excellent final model.
